(Willmar MN-) The Willmar Area Women’s Fund (WAWF), a signature initiative of the Willmar Area Community Foundation (WACF), announces it has exceeded its fundraising goal to expand trauma informed care trainings reaching over 1,100 professionals in Kandiyohi County including law enforcement professionals, emergency medical technicians, fire department volunteers/personnel, and the public defender’s office as well as other professionals that work directly with families impacted by trauma.

Through generous community donations, the Fund exceeded its goal of $50,000 and raised a total of $63,415. This annual campaign began on June 3, 2022 and final numbers are reported through December 2022.

The Willmar Area Women’s Fund provided grants to expand trauma informed care training to organizations serving children, youth, and families impacted by trauma. Along with focusing on trauma informed care training, the Willmar Area Women’s Fund also took initiative to broaden awareness of the intersectionality issues including homelessness/housing insecurity in our county. To support this expanded focus, funding was also provided to United Community Action Partnership for ‘welcome home kits’ for families moving from homelessness into housing.

“Because of our generous donors, we can continue our part in local efforts around trauma informed care as we help families impacted by trauma in Kandiyohi County,” states WAWF Chair, Val Amberg.

The Willmar Area Women’s Fund (WAWF) strives to shine a light, connect the dots, and propel work forward to improve the lives of the women and children in Kandiyohi by filling gaps in funding with partner organizations. Thanks to all the donors that continue to support us!
